Yujeong received the Promising Scholar Honorable Mention at 2025 Rescon!

This award is given to students who focus on research regarding under-served or marginalized communities, and she has presented her work on 1) identifying heterogeneity in availability of protective factors in children with maltreatment histories and each class’s association with key developmental outcomes (social skills, positive functioning, depressive symptoms) and 2) exploring how different stakeholders involved in the child welfare system (foster parents, primary parents, kinship caregivers, caseworkers, young adults aged out of foster care) define well-being in child welfare.

At the 2025 ResCon, Lijian Zhao received an Promising Scholar Honorable Mention for research on the long-term effects of early childhood maltreatment on young adult socioeconomic status. Using data from the Future of Families and Child Wellbeing Study, the study conducted a quantitative analysis to examine how experiences at age 3 impact outcomes at age 22. Findings revealed that early psychological abuse is significantly associated with lower educational attainment in young adulthood, while being in a partnership at age 22 is associated with higher educational outcomes, suggesting a potential protective factor.
